Ibaraki Akadama deluxe quality medium grain size 13 l

This akadama comes from an old stock and has been stored indoors for several years. For this reason it has an exceptional grain size, like the one you could find in the past, much larger on average than the one currently marketed by the same factory. Akadama is a substrate that the Japanese have been using for years for the cultivation of their bonsai. As it is granulated, it allows the bonsai to drain perfectly without waterlogging, thus preventing root rot and making the roots more aerated. 

It is a neutral pH product that does not contain organic matter, but it retains the water and nutrients that we provide the plant with very well.

Although it is not essential, it is advisable to pass it through a sieve to remove the dust and prevent it from clumping, as well as to obtain different grain sizes.

In general, it is the basic substrate used when the tree is already in a bonsai pot and is usually accompanied (in a smaller proportion) by another harder substrate that allows the mixture to degrade less and increase its durability.
