The author is the 4th generation of Kakuzan and the first dedicated to bonsai. His real name is Watanabe Kakuyuki and he was born in 1949 (Showa 24). He is listed as a master ceramicist by the local government of Tokoname. His father Yukio (Third generation of Kakuzan was the one who taught Kakuyuki).
